The late Mary Vinson Blackwell lived her life through art and creation. Hers was a journey that is now at the roots of the Royal Hut vision.
Upon her graduation from Parsons School of Design in New York, Mary worked as an independent stylist, and through mutual friend, Grace Jones met Chris Blackwell, the founder of Island Records and Island Outpost.

From Europe, Africa & Asia, Mary travelled with Chris at her side. Gathering inspiration in her aide memoir, she brought valuable ideas back to her design studio. There she reinterpreted them into her unique vision.
From the rich exotic fabrics, crafts and treasures she brought back from her travels, Mary translated her ideas from grassroots craftsmanship into rare objects of desire.
